Artist's Description
This is my Agnes Martin studio exercise. I started out with a background of light pink acrylic paint. Then I applied Titanium white acrylic paint to lower the chroma of the initial color. I chose to create this painting after the later paintings of Agnes Martin. I think she was very influenced by the zen, minimalist nature of Buddhism in her life. So her paintings are very quiet and almost lacks any loud colors. They are very calm and forces one to calm their mind. This light pink was one of the lightest colors I had in my paint stash so I decided to use it. I wanted to use grey because pink and grey are one of my favorite combinations, but I decided against it. I went ahead and marked off the areas with a lead pencil as she often did. Fixed it fixative so the graphite does not run over. Then I added very little white to the remaining pink acrylic paint, masked off the areas after I divided them into equal spaces with masking tape and applied the lighter pink with a sponge brush. About Hyacinth Paul
Dr. Hyacinth Paul is a retired scientist and Professor who recently started her career as an artist. Her works are both abstract and realistic, mostly done in oil, acrylics and mixed media. Her paintings are very colorful because she believes color sparks synesthesia and involuntarily evokes feelings of joy. Her paintings using the method of the old masters technique take several weeks to complete. Her abstracts are opinions and thoughts she is trying to communicate through her colorful canvas. She has just completed over 58 works in the 58th year of her life. Within the last year, Dr. Paul has exhibited in more than 10 solo/group exhibitions.
