Artist's Description
"Barnett Newman Studio Exercise" is a painting done for the Postwar Abstract painting course by MOMA on Coursera. I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in painting.
This is my Barnett Newman studio exercise. I started out with a background of Orange acrylic paint. Then taped the first side off and painted it on with Cad Red medium acrylic paint creating the first thick zip on the right hand side.I then proceeded to block off three areas to create the three zips on the left hand side. The colors used are cad orange, red oxide and burnt sienna just with different mediums. The applications are not as simple as they look. I will have to look at a real Barnett Newman painting to see for myself the intricacies of his technique.
About Hyacinth Paul
Dr. Hyacinth Paul is a retired scientist and Professor who recently started her career as an artist. Her works are both abstract and realistic, mostly done in oil, acrylics and mixed media. Her paintings are very colorful because she believes color sparks synesthesia and involuntarily evokes feelings of joy. Her paintings using the method of the old masters technique take several weeks to complete. Her abstracts are opinions and thoughts she is trying to communicate through her colorful canvas. She has just completed over 58 works in the 58th year of her life. Within the last year, Dr. Paul has exhibited in more than 10 solo/group exhibitions. She entered three juried shows as of last month and was accepted into a couple from which...
