Artist's Description
The Lotus is the National flower of India. This is a childhood memory. It was common practice to doodle these in art class a very long time ago! I think 48 years! Before switching to the science stream, art was a mandatory class. After that we only concentrated on science subjects with little to no exposure to the Arts in the class room. A trend I see happening here in the USA. I think it is important to keep the Arts alive as our humanity comes from an deep rooted appreciation of the Arts. It is important to support every art form and keep it in schools because we are not creating Mozart's, but we are creating people who appreciate the Mozart's and the Van Gogh's of the world. Incidentally Art is a great form of relaxation. Artistic pursuits help people live longer more meaningful lives! This is not my observation but that of fellow art enthusiasts well into their late 80's who just love painting!

About Hyacinth Paul
Dr. Hyacinth Paul is a retired scientist and Professor who recently started her career as an artist. Her works are both abstract and realistic, mostly done in oil, acrylics and mixed media. Her paintings are very colorful because she believes color sparks synesthesia and involuntarily evokes feelings of joy. Her paintings using the method of the old masters technique take several weeks to complete. Her abstracts are opinions and thoughts she is trying to communicate through her colorful canvas. She has just completed over 58 works in the 58th year of her life. Within the last year, Dr. Paul has exhibited in more than 10 solo/group exhibitions.
