Artist's Description
Tempestuous is an acrylic on canvas painting and it was done as part of a series on color studies in my studio. Tempestuous is an abstract painting in yellow ochre, lemon yellow, raw umber. I just like the movement in the painting and initially I was going to call it tempest but the attitude of the painting is tempestuous to me! It may be clouds are moving and the setting sun is casting a golden hue on them, but the winds are causing a tempest. It's almost like the clouds are playing with the wind and the resulting tempestuous relationship of the wind and the clouds is captured in this painting.
Gerhardt Richter and Henri Matisse are painters I am studying right now. I am also interested in studying the role of textures in paintings. For this I look to the works of Anselm Kiefer and Vincent Van Gogh. Color in paintings and art is very important to me and for these I look to the works of Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian and Rothko. I am also interested...
About Hyacinth Paul
Dr. Hyacinth Paul is a retired scientist and Professor who recently started her career as an artist. Her works are both abstract and realistic, mostly done in oil, acrylics and mixed media. Her paintings are very colorful because she believes color sparks synesthesia and involuntarily evokes feelings of joy. Her paintings using the method of the old masters technique take several weeks to complete. Her abstracts are opinions and thoughts she is trying to communicate through her colorful canvas. She has just completed over 58 works in the 58th year of her life. Within the last year, Dr. Paul has exhibited in more than 10 solo/group exhibitions.
